The Ganga Expressway Project, one of the most ambitious infrastructure developments in Uttar Pradesh, is now nearing completion. According to the latest official update, nearly 95% of the construction work has been completed, bringing the state closer to launching its longest expressway.
This major development is seen as the next big project, ready for inauguration, that will connect the western and eastern parts of the state with faster, smoother travel.
Ganga Expressway Latest Update
As per officials from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the work on the expressway is almost finished. Only about 5% of the work remains, which mainly includes side plazas, wayside amenities, and petrol pumps.
A senior official confirmed that the remaining work is expected to be completed within one to one-and-a-half months. This latest update on the Ganga Expressway has raised hopes that the project will soon be open to public use.
Construction of this massive project began on December 18, 2021, and since then, it has progressed rapidly.
Ganga Expressway Route and Key Details
The Ganga Expressway Route is designed to connect Bijoli village in Meerut to Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj. The total length of the expressway is around 594 kilometers, making it the longest expressway in the state.
This six-lane access-controlled expressway can be expanded to eight lanes in the future. It will pass through 12 important districts, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj.
With this route, travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj is expected to reduce significantly, improving connectivity across Uttar Pradesh.
Use of Advanced Technology for Better Quality
To ensure world-class quality, the state government has partnered with ETH Zurich, a university in Switzerland, and RTDT Laboratories AG. Under this agreement, advanced systems based on artificial intelligence and sensors are being used to monitor the expressway.
These smart systems can detect road defects during construction. This allows engineers to fix issues immediately, ensuring better road quality and safety.
According to the state industrial development minister, Nand Gopal Gupta, Swiss technology is being used to maintain high standards of riding comfort. Sensors placed on the road measure surface quality and detect any unevenness, helping maintain smooth driving conditions.
Infrastructure and Development Along the Expressway
The Ganga Expressway News also highlights the massive infrastructure built along the route. The project includes 140 water bodies and several important structures, including 7 road overbridges, 17 interchanges, 14 major bridges, and 126 minor bridges.
In addition, there are 28 flyovers, 50 vehicle underpasses, 171 light vehicle underpasses, 160 small vehicle underpasses, and 946 culverts. These structures ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce congestion.
The state government is also planning to develop industrial clusters along the expressway. This move is expected to boost economic growth and create new job opportunities in the regions connected by the expressway.
