The Telangana government has announced plans to build over one lakh free 2BHK homes for poor families in Hyderabad under its housing scheme. The move aims to provide permanent housing to economically weaker sections.
Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced that it will build more than one lakh two-bedroom (2BHK) homes for economically weaker families in Hyderabad under its affordable housing programme.
The announcement was made during the distribution of ownership documents to beneficiaries of the state's 2BHK Housing Scheme.
The initiative aims to provide free permanent homes to poor families who do not own a house. Along with improving living conditions, the scheme is expected to reduce housing insecurity for thousands of low-income households across the city.
During the housing document distribution programme in Hyderabad, Telangana Minister Mohammad Azharuddin said the state government remains committed to providing housing support to families who need it the most.
He said the government has already handed over homes to many eligible families, including people with disabilities and individuals with special needs. According to the minister, special attention has been given to vulnerable sections while selecting beneficiaries.
Azharuddin also thanked the Chief Minister for continuing the housing programme and ensuring that deserving families receive permanent homes.
The event marked the official handover of housing allotment documents to beneficiaries, with the government stating that the selection process has been designed to give priority to socially and economically weaker sections.
The Telangana government is now preparing to expand the programme.
Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced that the government has decided to construct more than one lakh new housing units for poor families in Hyderabad.
He said land has already been identified for the project, and the new homes will be developed in areas that offer better employment opportunities. The government also plans to improve urban infrastructure while expanding affordable housing.
According to Prabhakar, officials are working to clear long-pending administrative issues so that the housing scheme can be implemented smoothly and the benefits reach eligible families in a transparent manner.
The Telangana 2BHK Housing Scheme is a welfare programme launched by the state government to provide free two-bedroom houses to poor families.
Unlike many housing schemes where beneficiaries are required to contribute part of the construction cost, homes under this programme are fully built and allotted by the government without any financial contribution from eligible families.
Each housing unit generally includes:
The scheme is available in both rural and urban areas. In cities such as Hyderabad, where land availability is limited, the government develops apartment complexes to accommodate more beneficiaries.
The housing scheme is meant for families that meet the government's eligibility conditions.
Priority is generally given to:
Beneficiaries are selected after verification by district authorities and local government bodies.
The Telangana government said the expansion of the 2BHK Housing Scheme reflects its focus on improving access to affordable housing for low-income families.
With the proposed construction of over one lakh new homes, the government aims to provide secure housing while supporting planned urban development in Hyderabad. Officials believe the initiative will help more families own a permanent home and improve their overall quality of life.
